2017 Vividcon Vid Recs

Vividcon time again! No party this year, life was just too hectic for that. I’m lucky I even got to watch every single vid! I almost thought I wouldn’t get to. I’m very sad to hear that next year will be the last Vividcon! I have loved this con for almost a decade (even though I only attended once) and there will be a true void when it’s over. I’m not linking each vid title to the vid post this year, instead click on the link for the vid show and if a download link is available you can get it there. Also, again I just didn’t have time to be as comprehensive as I used to be with this. There are lots more great vids shown than I’ve recorded here. Presented in the order that I watched the shows.

Interesting period piece that also has a lesbian relationship – even though the relationship seems to be the typical doomed thing. But it looks like there is more to it than that, and I’m interested…

This looked pretty cool! I’ve added it to my Netflix list even though part of me is going “……Power Rangers???? :facepalm:”

Really sweet, poignant vid that made me want to watch the movie.

Clean Light by skygiants | Steven Universe
I’ve never seen this show, but the vid was all about friends as found family and I loved it.

Finally I get to see a bit about this show! I really enjoyed this, and totally see why fandom has embraced it.

Looks like an awesome ensemble show with time travel!

Lovely, melancholic song for the quiet strength of professor McGonagall and the other characters through difficult times.

Cosplay
A lot of great creativity in this show. It was neat to see how some were more traditional music video type things, and others were more traditional vid type things with a narrative. I had never heard of cosplay music videos so this was a great introduction.

Kinda creepy and well done. I'm curious about the shot at the end that looked like the same person on the screen twice, and how they did that.

Very cool skating and professional-looking camera work.

I absolutely don't watch Hannibal, but I was intrigued by the 'comedy' tag on this and it did indeed make me grin. Go figure. I guess that's why they say the fandom is WAY different than the source material.

*Expo by lim | Iron Man
Oooooooo I love this as a character study of Tony! I still really enjoy the first Iron Man and Tony as a character, and this vid just dug deep into him. The pace was excellent throughout and didn't feel long.

*Some Time Around Midnight by bop_radar | Battlestar Galactica (2003)
An excellent look at Lee and the Starbuck/Apollo relationship. It gave me feels, and I haven't had feels for that show in a while. It’s funny, I would definitely have been an OT3 shipper for Anders/Kara/Lee had I seen this show five years after I did. As it was, I could never decide and really wanted her to be with both but didn’t know that was a thing. Now I’m somewhere between shipping her with either man depending on what I’m watching/reading at the time, and shipping the OT3. Once I have an initial OTP/3 developed it's often hard to move me off of it.

Really cool look at sailing over many fandoms. Spoiler! I didn't read the vid title before watching so I was surprised by the ending. It was really cool to think of it all as a digital dream by Data, though I haven't seen that episode so I don't know if that reading is correct.

I have loved this vid since I saw it almost a decade ago, and it's still stunning. It is truly visual poetry. It's one of the first McShep vids I ever saw and it was formative for my view of their relationship. I haven't thought about it in a while but I'm so glad to see it here.

*Flow by lim | Multi
I'm not sure what to say about this vid. Both "flow" and "visual poetry" are accurate phrases to use, but it seems to be somehow so much more. The vid pinged something in me the first time I watched it, and again when watching this year's stream, but I don't know how to describe it. It's just a really penetrating vid for me.

One of the few vids I've seen set to classical music. Very dramatic, good use of the highs and lows of the song.
