I've just finished Season 1 of Heroes and I really enjoyed it.  Is it wrong that every time Sylar came onscreen I got excited?  I couldn't help squeeing a little about Spock! and Zach!, and almost forgot that Sylar is one seriously creepy bad dude.  :D

Spoilery!  Zach really did a fantastic job.  He does creepy so well, several times I wanted to reach out and shake Mohinder for being so blind.  And other times I just wanted to hug him for being so lost inside, especially the episode with his mother.  Poor, lost little Sylar, just wanting to be special and important and failing miserably at finding an acceptable solution.  I'm also a little surprised at how appealing I find his character, given that he's a murderer, but I think Zach's spot-on facial expressions have a lot to do with that, he's just so good!  How does he manage to be creepy and hot all at once?  I'm very excited that he didn't die at the end, as he's a pretty big reason I love the show.

I like Clair's journey, and I'm very relieved that her dad tried so hard to keep her safe towards the end.  I didn't like the vibes he gave off in the beginning, like he was so distant and creepy in his own way.  I don't trust Nathan or Mrs. Petrelli, and how crazy is it that Clair turns out to be Nathan's daughter?  I love Peter, though, and can't wait to see how he develops further.  I love Hiro and Ando, they are so funny.  And I really love Hiro's wholehearted enthusiasm for making a positive difference and having honor.  He's a great character.  So far I think it's a great show and I can't wait to see more.

I really want to get into some good Mylar fic, but I'm a little hesitant to go looking so I don't get spoiled.  Anyone have any good season 1 only recs?
ETA:  I've just found the Roadtrip tag at the Archive of our Own, that looks like a promising place to find fic!

I was recently talking a bit with Xela about Stargate: Atlantis and how some of the writers don't really like the John character, and that made me wonder how much of my love of Atlantis, John and Rodney comes from fic and not from the show itself.  I discovered Atlantis through McShep fic before I ever saw any of the show.  In fact, I read a lot of fic before I saw the show.  There is some extremely excellent SGA fic out there and it sold me on these two characters not only being in a relationship together, but on John being a character with a lot of skill and intelligence, and hidden emotional depths that hide a fragile soul, and Rodney being strong and brave underneath his bluster and social awkwardness, an everyday hero.  These popular characterizations of them from fic color my reading of the show very heavily, and now I don't know if the characters are really this way or if I'm reading more into them than is really there.  John isn't as appealing if you don't think of him as having a traumatic past that makes getting close to people painful, but once he does it's full of passion and fierce loyalty.  The show is still good regardless, but I enjoy the extra back story and emotion.  To me this shows how powerful fic can be, and that is a wonderful thing.

Haha, Heroes n00b. *cough!* Sometime when I've got more time I'll try to hook you up with some roadtrip!recs Mylar style. That's the majority of the first season Mylar fics.

Also--Zach's ability to go from evil/sinister to adorable/mother's boy instanteously is fascinating. I kind of didn't want to like Sylar just because my friend fangirlled him like a pro but I caved. (Him and Nathan are my favorite which is pure irony.) Oh, that reminds me, there's the whole alternate!future fic too.

I really enjoyed first season Sylar. I loved the first season.

Yep, n00b here! I'd love to read any good fics you can rec, bring 'em on whenever you get time! I can see how Heroes can have a TON of alternate universe fics, that would be pretty interesting to explore.

Facinating is a great word for him, he really is. Even though Zach was fantastic as Spock, and that was a big reason I watched the show, and because I knew that Sylar was an evil character, I really wasn't prepared to like him or for him to be played so well. He's been a fantastic surprise for me.

Nathan is interesting too. It's like he has this internal battle with whether he's going to make the right choice or do what's best for himself and his family. I want to believe that he's going to turn out good, I'm just not sure. (But don't say anything more, cause I don't know if he died at the end of this season!) Also: fangirled him like a pro, Hee! That's so cute.

Anything here:

http://community.livejournal.com/mylar_fic/tag/roadtrip

should be good. I don't think that there are any spoilers. As for particular authors--I'd say pretty much any of them are good.

I won't say much because I suck at not giving away spoilers.

Great, thanks!! I see that you've got one there, I'll have to read it. I'm scared to look at your "Mylar is hot dirty sex" tag before I've seen more of the series, but I will eventually. Ahh, the joy of having a new fandom!
